Exhibition

Andalusia, the Cartographic Image. From Antiquity through to the Current Day

From 18 September to 22 November 2009

Organised by the Andalusian Studies Centre and the Andalusian Cartography Institute, this exhibition takes visitors on a tour of the maps of Andalusia over the ages.

Andalucía, la imagen cartográfica

From 18 September to 22 November the Museum of Andalusian Autonomy will be the venue for the exhibition Andalusia, the Cartographic Image. From Antiquity through to the Current Day. This previously unseen exhibition takes visitors on a tour of the maps of Andalusia over the centuries, an exciting journey which reveals both the changing reality of our region and the needs, resources, mentality and lifestyle of our predecessors. Maps, as well as being practical instruments, constitute a veritable metaphor of the real world and the culture producing them.

The exhibition is divided into four sections which summarise the history of cartography of Andalusia, including reproductions of key maps and documents. There is also a series of transverse sections which help the public to understand the science of cartography, together with the methods, instruments and technology which different cultures have used to capture the geography of our region.
